    Hi all,
me and the other half are off to munich for the weekend next week and we've decided we're gonna head to salzburg in austria for a day. Our hotel is right outside the main station in munich which is handy but was just wondering if anyone knows how much the return trip for the 2 of us will roughly cost.
    cheers in advance.

i found one return trip as low as €30 next sunday if you return on the 19.51 train to munich http://www.bahn.com/i/view/GBR/en/index.shtml

You can get a Bayern-Ticket that is valid for 2-5 people for 29euro for a day pass. They're valid from 9am - 3am the following day on all local trains. I'm almost certain that its valid for Salzburg cos I did it a couple of years ago but check in the train station.

its definitely ok for Salzburg, as its one of the exceptions that are only a couple of km over the border.
(Ulm in Badenwurtemburg and Kufstein in Austria are 2 more exceptions)

obviously, it doesnt work on the local busses in Salzburg itsself, but Salzburg can be seen best by foot anyhow

    You'll love it down there.

Munich as a whole is exceptionally safe. The train station is not rough whatsoever. There's no shortage of security and the police frequent the area regularly. I stayed in a hostel right beside the station which was handy for getting early morning trains. I didnt see any dodgy bastards about at all.

I stayed in the Winters hotel which is over the road from the main station. the only one complaint i had was that we was in a room at the front of the building with a busy road and the train station 50 metres away so it was very noisy the whole way through the night, but other than that I cant fault the city for anything. people was friendly enough, felt very safe, great food, great beer, very interesting place with loads of history. public transport is top class and and well run
Ive been to a few cities around europe and i have to say munich has suprised me the most. i@ll definatly go back and would highly recomend the place!
