Getting kinged (crowned) in Draughts

    Hello,

I am hopping someone can help me with this question on draughts. A friend of mine and I played a game yesterday for the first time in years.

We came upon the following situation and neither of us knew the answer, I have google searched it and also asked other people but know one seems to have a solid answer.

Anyways, both of our understanding of getting kinged or crowned is when you reach the kings row that you get crowned or kinged, this is marked by placing another checker ontop of the checker that reached the kings row. You then have power to move forwards or backwards on the board.

Our situation was, my friend reached the king's row and should have gotten kinged, however, I had no checkers to put on her checker to mark it, so is she kinged and can she play as being kinged without a checker or must she wait til I capture one of her checkers and then she is kinged?

Does anyone have any idea on this? I hope I have explained it o.k.

    Cheers for the help

This is quite rare as it presumably happened very early in the game? I would just use any available piece (even an opponent's one of mine that was nabbed earlier) to denote the kinging, my view is that just because there isn't a piece available doesn't stop the king being crowned...

most boards have about 3 spares on each side just for this occasion.
