i would like to upgrade my Canon 70-200 2.8L non IS lens for the mark II but i was wondering if anyone had done the same and noticed a marked difference between the two.

I've been saving as best is can to get that lens. I'll be upgrading from the f4 IS version so it'd be a bigger jump for me. The main reason I'm going for the mkII over the first mkI is IQ at 2.8. Apparently the MkII is very sharp at all apertures. The first resource I look at for sussing out a lens is on fredmiranda.com. Here are end user reviews of the MKII.

Its all splitting hairs, my Mk1 is superb wide open (which is where is spends most of its life)

I have only the Mk.II, so I cannot say. However images are sharper than my cruel sarcastic comments here.

I really love this lens for outdoor shots but the images I've seen from others with the Mark II definitely seem sharper. So good reviews so far. I will save for a bit longer. I'm hoping to get around 700 for my old lens which will help.

Well see for yourselves, the Mk II is indeed sharper wide open.

It costs a hell of a lot more tho.

I paid £999 for my Mk I with a €100 rebate on top of that, the Mk II is £1700.
Of course that was a couple of years ago.

5uspect- are you a boy? I looked at that link and all I saw was a computer game from the 80's. We must be wired differently :D I'll take your word for it that it's sharper though and thank you for the reply

Are you going for the Mark 2 with IS, or do all the MK2s have IS ?
