Is it better to get purpose built student houses, like Yeats Village, ir is it better to go with private rented accomodation For Sligo IT? I heard that private was meant to be cheaper then the villages?
    Thanks

Aye the private is way cheaper, could be anything up to €30 or so a week in savings depending on where you end up, if you dont mind a wee walk in the morning id suggest trying to get a gaff in Millbrook myself, lived there for a year cheap enough and a very handy location altogether

Yeah i thought so. Is glencarrig or mulberry any good? I'm trying to get as cheap as possible because I just can't afford anything over €2500!

Aye theyre both sweet enough, I think glencarrig tends to be expensive enough though and some of the houses in mulberry are hit and miss but if you get a good deal they can be sound spots altogether

Both are pretty good to be honest. I lived in Mulberry for a year, houses are cold if you run out of oil! but other than that are ok. Lived in gateway and yates as well, id prefer yates. Gateway can be very noisy, walls are paper thin!

well, i cant argue with that! take pics of every problem with the house when you move in and get them to sign it in the office, otherwise you will be caught for everything. In 4th year, our curtains in the living room were held up by a screw driver sticking out of the wall! Gateway can be very noisy, the walls are paper thin. The main reason I liked yates was because of the broadband from the college, when i lived in gateway, it hadnt been hooked up at that stage (the place was still a building site! back in the 04/05 college year ) Best house i lived in was in mullberry, even if it was freezing!

you'd probably be better to go with the student acomidation in the long run......Yeats and Ard Nua probably the best but Ard Nua is the most expensive but the most fanciest of all the accomadation. Some private places might be cheaper in terms of actual rent but you have the add the cost of utilities and other charges on top of that so you could end up paying more than the student accomadation which includes these charges.....plus there's the whole deal with security in the private estates, the amount of break-ins in Glencarrig and Mulberry was unbelievable last year. The student villages are a lot more secure since they have security guys going around, and the doors are generally a lot more stronger!!!! :D........... Gateway, while right beside the college, the apartments are pretty small and its noisy, The Grove and The Clarion are pretty far in terms to the town centre and its a long old circular walk to get to the college (was there in First year, but i hated it there!!!), Ard Nua is pretty cool but pretty expensive and Yeats Village is very good overall, nice atmosphere in the place and one of the cheapest places (was there last year, and headin there this year, really liked it there)

Right well I'm thinking of going with a shared room in Ard Nua because I'v heard nothing bad about it so far and Yeats can be a dodgy place with management. I'v been sharing a room with my two brothers for the last 18 years so what's another year!!biggrin.gif Tank you for all your advice about the estates! smile.gif
