How long should I expect to wait to get the deposit back on my house?

    hi stacexD,

the law says it should be a prompt period. generally 2 to 3 weeks after you have submitted the closing balance of any utility bills and the property has been inspected. the inspection should be carried out on your last day, with you or shortly afterwards.

    key word is promptly!

if you are unhappy at the wait write a polite letter seeking the money or a reason why it is not being returned. in the letter allow the landlord 7 days for a reply. hopefully it will get sorted amicably that way.

otherwise you may have to take the matter to PRTB.

let us know how you get on, and best of luck :)

    Thanks for the advice!
We moved out over 2 weeks ago so I just text the landlord and he said he'll send the balance out by friday so we'll see.
The neighbours told me hes pretty creative when it comes to deposits but hopefully I'll get my spending money for oxegen out of it :D
