    So the telly has a MPEG4 tuner built in and the MHEG5 or whatever its called. Its he EX503 model i think.

    How do i go about picking up the irish digital channels on it would i connect a dish or an ariel to it or what? I already have an ariel in it and nothing is being picked up.

    Sorry for noobishness. Thanks

    Do you have an indoor/set top/rabbit ears aerial?

    Where are you located? You may require an attic or rooftop aerial.

    Check here for your local Saorview transmitter - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/

    It's hooked up to a rooftop aeriel but its an anologue one that works for picking up rte tv3 and tg4 but not anything else. We tried to hook up the satellite to it at the time we got it but there was no socket for the satellite connection

    Thanks for your reply

    There is no such thing as an analogue aerial or digital aerial they are one and the same. If you get TV3 and TG4 on analogue you should get Saorview fine, are you sure you are doing a Digital or DTV scan on the TV ? , refer to the user manual for more details on how to do this.

    There's no such thing as an analogue or digital aerial, just an aerial that's designed to pick up a range of frequencies be they analogue or digital.

    Analogue Terrestrial TV - UHF Ch 21-69 (470-862 MHz)
    Digital Terrestrial TV (Saorview) - UHF Ch 21-60 (470-790 MHz)

    The TV doesn't have a satellite tuner so no option to connect a satellite dish. In any case the Saorview DTT channels are not available from satellite anyway.

    If you get analogue TV3 from the aerial you should have no problem receiving the Saorview DTT channels. All transmitters carrying analogue TV3 have been upgraded for Saorview DTT.

    If your TV is the Sony EX503 it should have no problems receiving the DTT channels. Have you done a full digital scan? Have you selected the digital section of the TV by pressing the digital/analog button on the remote control (analogue and digital channels are stored separately in a Sony TV)?

    Good to hear. The availability of the UK channels will depend on your location i.e. close to the border or on the east coast with a suitable aerial pointing at a UK transmitter.

    100 channels :eek::confused:

    Are you sure you're connected to an aerial and not a UPC cable point? There's only 8 Saorview channels (and 4 analogue).
