just bought a car but cant afford insurance for another few weeks.

need to pick up the car in a few days.

is there such a thing as gettin insured for one day in order to do this?

what would be the average price? (i know i have to take into account age, engine size etc for this but just need a rough estimate.)

Could you ask someone who already has insurance to collect it for you? Most people who have their own fully comp insurance would be insured under their own policy to drive other cars.

    Hi OP

You could insure the vehicle and then the next day "lay the vehicle up"

This means that would be covered under RTA to bring the vehicle home and when it is at home then you have it laid up and it is still insured for fire and theft if parked in a driveway. You will also receive a general amount of your premium back for doing this as the risk is MUCH lower.

Another option is to incept a policy online, drive the car home and cancel the policy. You'd be down about E25 as they would probably charge this on an administration fee.

No such thing as insuring a vehicle for one day unless you do as previously advised - set up the policy and then cancel it the next day. Probably easier to see if someone you know could drive it home for you..

Irish insurance companies need to move with the times and offer such 1 day solutions.

but wouldn't that car have to be insured by the owner anyway?

No. A common misconception. Check your insurance policy.

Maybe, but often not. A common misconception. Check your insurance policy.
