what Rocks said. The newer ones are ok but give bother with pumps etc. If you are thinking of buying one, pop the bonnet and take a peek, visualise the fun you will have removing the unremovable brake master cylinder when it fails, the joy doing the heater plugs will bring, and how much of a laugh removing the injector pump would be. Its all well and fine cramming a motor in under the dash, but it makes working on them a pain. Removing the head is just a pleasure, up there with removing your fingernails. The older 1.9 non turbos are a brilliant motor and I have had them and will probably have another.

Depending on whatever engine your after but your right about the 1.9's..:)
    Great engine..
With lower emmision levels...recyclable parts..etc most of the modern engine's out there today are the same....everythng is crammed in and most of the time its difficult to gain access to air filters..heater plugs..egr valves etc.
