Now, is it just me, or is this woman just a very rich talk show host? because there is a serious amount of hero worship going on here.

Why do Americans go so ga-ga for her? I mean, she hosts a TV celebrity and lifestyle show - she hasn't cured cancer or brought about world peace, yet judging by scenes such as that above, you would swear she was the next messiah (perhaps Tom Cruise actually believes this)

I've caught the show once or twice over the years and every time she walks on set, the audience act as if they are witnessing the second coming of Christ. Weird.

Why all the hype? I always preferred Sally Jessy Raphael myself.

She actually doesn't annoy me too much, because all she really does is repeat inane slogans and wobbles through various sayings time and again.

I think reaches into the hearts of the U.S. nation. She attempts to bring hope into areas where there is none. She strives for women and her own race. She also continually presents her flaws to her viewing public in an attempt to say I am no different from you. I feel your pain, I have my own heartache. She is a mastermind at relating to people and she is also very generous. She knows how to do a great interview - she just lets the interviewee speak and says very little herself, similar to Gay Byrne, although I think Gay Byrne may have excelled beyond Oprah in interviewing skills.
It is because she speaks to the people, and for the people that she is loved. She wants to change U.S. for the better from within and help each person to achieve more for themselves and give more to those around them. She is a very powerful woman in her ability to influence.

Everybody has something to offer to this world that is uniquely theirs, and she did not shy away from offering her piece. She inspires and encourages people to do the same.

I dont like how she interviews people either. She interviewed kids with physch disorders, wearin sunglasses for the whole thing! And invited her friend back to the show, who she fell out with, so SHE could beg for forgiveness, yet Oprah admits no fault on her part

Not one for biographies but I think I will read hers. She`s an interesting person, don`t get a disingenuous vibe from her. I want to know how she overcame her abuse and became so well rounded. She always reminds me of Ellen and Jamey Oliver - they all turned negatives into positives and brought things to a good place - I want to know their secret, I would like to be less pesimistic and throw myself at life more.
