Just looking on google maps and its giving me 3 options. Either gonna go down the m1 and by the m50 or through navan then mullingar and then onto the m6 which google maps says is 30km shorter and 6 mins faster. Is this right?

It's both safer and faster to go the M1 -> M50 route.

    It is however more expensive.

That route to Mullingar is hell on earth and bringing you out of the way.

I concur about Mullingar. The N52 (like the N16) shouldn't be an N road at all.

Can you configure the timings used in the google routing algorithm?

I've driven the N52 back towards Drogheda and wouldn't do it again. M1, M50 & M4 is a much better route.

    If you don't mind the tolls, M1, M50 N/M4, M6.

One toll on the M6 west of Ballinasloe
One toll on the M4 between Kilcock and Kinnedgad.
One toll on the M50 (West link between N3 and N4)
One toll on the M1 in Drogheda, but your route might avoid that if you get on it South of the town.

if you wanted to avoid two of those tolls, you could come down the duleek road and cut across to dunboyne and then maynooth and get onto to the M4 there, ashbourne to the M4 is about 20mins, wouldnt be too much more from drogheda

I do Drogheda to Maynooth in 40 mins each day. Best option IMO.

Ashbourne to the M4 via Maynooth can be far higher than 40mins let alone 20 if you get caught either in Ratoath, Maynooth or behind slow traffic between Dunboyne and Maynooth

I concur with that too, sort of. Via Ratoath is very much luck of the draw and some parts of the route should be on the circuit of Ireland.

    Drogheda - Navan - Trim - Longwood - Kinnegad.

The Longwood - old N3/R??? has a few bad turns and is quite narrow in places, but we get to the roundabout at the Galway Clinic in 2 hrs 10 mins from Navan using this route.....
