From the creators of U-boat watches (hideous in themselves) we are now graced with a new brand of oversized (> 50 mm) blockish fashion pieces called Welder. As if that wasn't bad enough, they also have a stealth version of most of their "creations" ...black on black :D.

You'd need to carry a second watch for telling the time :D:D:D

    :D

50mm is fooking huge alright. Way too big for my twigs. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

LOL. I'm saving for my Monaco.

It's a bit silly in my opinion. Three separate little movements crammed into a huge case. A rather inelegant solution for recording more than one timezone :)
Also, the odds of one of these movements going wrong is a lot higher than if you've only one in your watch.

Nobody seems to take issue with the fact that none of those "watches" does their job ...

(as in tell the time without getting CSI Miami in for forensic investigation :D)

    I think that one's a given :)

I like high-contrast watches like the DA36 where you can see the time in milliseconds in any conditions...

    p5090064.jpg

Also, I don't like additional crap on the watch that serves no purpose or actually hinders the functionality of the watch: e.g. being too big to wear comfortably, extra bits stuck on the edges for no good reason, extra dials that reduce legibility, subidials on chronos that don't even have numbers on them (so wtf are they supposed to measuring?? see the Welder chono above) and so on. That makes them fashion watches, and I don't like fashion watches at all. Sure, the DA36 costs a lot more than these fashion items, but I'll still be happy to be seen wearing a tool like the DA36 long after this fad for giant, pointless watches has passed.

    In short, I won't be buying a 'Welder' :)

Yeah they are hideous as indeed are the UBoats. 44mm is about as big as I can go.

I know it's a matter of personal taste, and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I can't fathom the trend for massive watches. I'm a big guy (6'3", 15 stone) with a 7.5" wrist and 44mm is my max. The strangest to my eyes is the Bell & Ross BR 01 series. I have the 03-94 and it's right on the edge of what I can wear. No idea how anyone other than a bodybuilder could wear the larger one.

I always pictured you as a small fella for some reason!

Not a fan of the Bell and Ross 01's at all, like their vintage watches though.

What part is measured to get the *mm measurement?

    My general wear is this:
    51FBC535F6F945E0BF690465D4A7C84B-0000328125-0002375133-00640L-C4E6DED7A6814E02A82AF0D8287104D6.jpg
The face is 30mm? Or is it the case that is measured?

Usually it's the case without crown.

Ok. It's somewhere around 42mm then. I doubt I could get away with much bigger than that tbh. 50mm is ridiculous so.

    I just bought a Sector Oversize @ 48mm.

I know some folks think that's daft but it doesn't look as nuts on as I thought it would and its only a fun piece anyway :)

Any chance you could show pics of the 48mm on wrist? Am considering a 47mm panerai homage at min.

There's a few pics of my Panerai 44mm in the "post pics of your watches" thread too if that helps.

Here its is... I have stick arms and 7 inch wrists.

My advice - buy it... who gives a sh*t what other folks say ;)

    btw... Diameter + Crown = 52mm
