No, this isn't just a standard itunes question, help appreciated
I was sure there was a similar post on boards and I searched and searched and could not find it

imac works perfect, very happy with it. And all my music in itunes

I download many podcasts but suppose I try to download a good few, maybe eight or more and it'll download three or four or five and freeze. Within a minute the entire computer will freeze, word, safari or anything I was using.

So I have to turn off and turn on again.
Then I download the next ten or so podcasts, it does a couple and freezes again. Off and on again.

It can download lots of small podcasts like under 10mb but I know if I selected 10 podcasts, maybe over 150mb in total not a hope it would do it without the entire freezing. First the downloads stall, I get that spinning colored ball and within a minute or so my music stops, I can't force quit itunes and then everything freezes.

The imac is perfect in every way but this is killing me
Been like this from day one, is it itunes or maybe hardware? Few years old now so out of warranty

First off, you should repair permissions and verify the hard disk using Disk Utility. You should also make sure all your software is up-to-date using Software Update.

Okay, so the podcast/freezing problem. Look in your iTunes Library folder and go to iTunes Music > Downloads > Podcasts. This where temporary download files are kept. If there's anything inside, delete it.

If that doesn't work, look in Podcast settings (it's the button at the bottom of the Podcast window) and set it to only download the most recent podcast or do nothing at all, i.e., don't use "download all". When you want to download a new podcast click on it manually.

What version of OS X are you running?

Brilliant, worked. No more powering on and powering off constantly.

All sorts of temp files, some from 2008 in that folder so cleared it. And the disk repair flagged quite a lot of things and seems to be sorted.

Downloaded a load of podcasts just now and worked great

    Thanks
