    HI,

I have Cat5e cabling running to most rooms in my house. They are fed into a telephone jack in the rooms however I think, should they not feed into a telephone + ethernet jack?

It also looks like they all seem to lead outside and terminate in a small external box next to my Electricity meter. I again persume it would be better if they all terminated in a room inside somewhere?

Finally I would like to know my options of using this cabling, since its there -
Can I distribute audio over these to all rooms?
I dont really have a use for Internet I think, as I only use a dongle at home and dont have a fixed line connection or phone line?
As regards an alarm, could I hook up motion detectors in the rooms and hook it into an alarm system of sorts?
Or any other ideas for using them?

    Thanks
    F

They are for phone points in the house. The reason they are all to the outside box is that is where the main line from Eircom is brought to.

They could be used as you suggest for your alarm "although not recommended to be" if you where self installing an alarm system.
