LINEMARKING A BASKETBALL COURT

    HI

I'm a teacher in a small rural village and recently we have improved our school yard facilities by laying new tarmac for a basketball court and mini soccer court. We currently need to linemark the courts but because of the price of getting a contractor to do it, it looks like we will need to do it ourselves. We want to make the lines permanent so the ordinary semi permanent aerosols will not do. Can you please give advice on how or where i can get my hands on such a product so we could do a professional looking job.

First off, there is no such thing as a permanent marking material for tarmacadam. The closest is a thermoplastic material as seen for road markings and carparks, etc., is has a hot application.

Your choice is to bite the bullet and pay a professional or DIY and top it up a few times a year yourself.

Doing it yourself has the added advantage of a greater choice of colours but the overall job may not look as professional.

dont know if you mean a main contractor to come in and do it, or a sub contractor.

in any case, go direct to linemarking companies. there are lots of them out there. you might only save a couple of hundred euro doing it your self, but chances are you would have to redo it within a couple of years and it wouldnt be good quality.

A professional can certainly add extra colours if that's what you want.

If you go DIY you'll be remarking it again and not too far in the future. Are you willing to do this every time?

A professional application will last years. Now I know you said the contractor is expensive but this is a pretty standard job, nothing unusual about it. So call every one around and in the golden pages and get haggling. It's a very basic job and any decent company can handle it and will be happy for the business.

Not to go offtopic if the school is short of money then the parents might contribute or maybe ask the local GAA or soccer clubs to contribute. They can train there, good for fitness and sure the school is closed over the summer, just an idea. They could train during winter with waterlogged pitches too.
