Hey - Quick question - not sure if im in the right forum though

My family is pretty broken up on my dads side.

I have found one of my "long lost" aunts addresses on UK directory. I havent seen her since I was 8 (I'm 20)

I really want to write to her, as I used to love her when I was small and It seems a pity not to be talking to my aunt.

    Should I go for it?

    Thank you

It's a personal issue - no reason why you shouldn't post it here...

And no reason not to contact your Aunt, I'd say go for it - life is too short to partake in petty grudges.

OP: I have been in this position twice with an Aunt on both sides of the family.
One Aunt had been cut off by her Father by marrying a Protestant. Siblings had tried to make contact with her over the years but she didn't want to know them . She had perfectly legitamate reasons for doing so! I was really interested in making contact with her and got her number and rang her in the UK. It turns out that we bonded really well...........being the next generation I had a more rational take on things unlike the black and white views of family members. I remember we talked and taked for over an hour on the first phone call!
Having made contact only 10 years ago I would now say that she is the Aunt that I admire the most out of all my Aunts and Uncles.
The other paternal aunt similar to you had a majr rift with my paremts and i had not seen her since I was 10.........again I decided to make contact with her for Christmas 3/4 years ago......................I was terrified calling but she was very gracious and gain glad to recieve the call. I know I did the right thing and as a result she is back on speaking terms now with her brother.

I would certainly make contact.........say it's been too long and you would love to meet her.
I wish you well and a hope it is a positive experience :-)

    Go for it OP!

I had a lost aunt (it was my mother who found her) and she's the one of the most amazing people. It's natural enough to be nervous but I think it's always great to get to know more people, especially family members :) Best of luck!

Hey guys. Turns out she was on facebook, and I added her.

I came under fire though with parents and aunts. But she seemed happy to hear from me

    :)

There actually is. I was informed about it and what the problem is with her. So, yup I have and will tread carefully! :)
