    I bought this a week or 2 ago..... http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_G570_1072020.html
It came to €575 delivered, and i'm very impressed with it

Would you not pay the extra €150 for a Dell? For the known brand and aftersales service?

To hijack the thread, I have an inspiron 9400. It's a great machine and I'd buy another tomorrow if they were still for sale. I got it as a gift, but I'm under the impression that it wasn't a budget laptop when it was first sold nearly 5 years ago. If I stump for an inspiron 17r with corei3, will I be upgrading or downgrading? Considering that I'm happy with this thing's performance, if there is something on the market now that is under €600 but does the same job or better I'd buy it.

I'm looking for something for similarly long-term use. This one is creaking a bit

Very nice specs for the price. And Lenovo's are generally built like tanks. Good choice !

How much was the delivery charge? They only quote UK mainland on the website.

I have found that the thinkpad tend to crack at the front. That said the one purchased by BDJW was a bargain.

Yillian, I had a 9400 too. Was a great machine until the screen died. Bought an XPS 1530 then.... even better. Still using it now!!

No worries, when you get to the checkout and pick your delivery option, it says something along the lines of 4 - 5 day non mainland delivery. I had mine in 36 hours thought :D

It would be cheaper to buy on Amazon at £474 including delivery:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Notebook-i5-2410M-Windows-Premium/dp/B004TQQFJG/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1308737754&sr=1-2

For an extra £90 (£564), you can get 6GB RAM, extra 250GB hard drive and Blu-ray........

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Notebook-i5-2410M-Blu-ray-Windows/dp/B004TQQGFE/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1308736840&sr=1-1

I am thinking of purchasing laptop aswell but would really like Windows 7 Professional that allows Windows XP mode to run as an emulator (for installing particular software that I have)......

The Lenovo g570 2410n does look good is it still the best deal out there. Buying from uk or amazon how reliable is after sales & warranty from either saveon laptops or amazon.

I'm also being told by IT guy that I should upgrade to Office Professional 2010 so where is best to get this.

Thats a pretty good deal, similar specs to the levono above... but there is 6gb of ram instead of 4gb...

Lenovo are very well known. In August 2009, Lenovo was the fourth largest vendor of personal computers in the world. They bought the PC sales part of IBM. I think you are just assuming Dell are more known, because Dell is more known to you.

You'll be downgrading as the build quality in the new Inspiron isn't on par with previous generations. That and the 17r lacks a subwoofer so the sound will take a massive hit.

The XPS 17 would be the equivalent of a 9400. The sound has actually taken a step up on that one and I'd suggest taking the lowest spec possible for the best value, imo.

Thanks for this, but I don't listen to much through the laptop's speakers. Usually have independent speakers and subwoofer plugged into the headphone jack. The lowest xps has 250gb and 3gb, but there's a cheaper 17r with a dedicated graphics card and 4gb of ram, 500b.

They have the same display. I don't see why I'd go for the xps if sound is the only concern
