Not sure if this is the right section. Sorry if its not :p

My learners permit has been expired since August 2010. (Didn't renew it cause I was not driving)

Whats the story with renewing it? Can I just get a renewal form or do I have to do the theory test again?

Where do you get the renewal form and does anyone know what the charge is? Thanks!

    Hi

No ya won't have to do the theory test again, as your learner permit expired within the last 5 yrs.

Bring your expired provisional into your motor tax office with 2 signed passport size photos, fill out the renewal form and pay them the renewal fee of 15e. This permit will be valid for 2 years.

If it is your 3rd or more learner permit, you will need to provide proof that you have either sat a driving test and not been successful, (failure cert) This permit will be valid for 2 years, or that you have booked a driving test. (booking confirmation or email)

This permit will be valid for 1 year in order to allow you to sit your test.

For all of the above, the renewal fee is 15e.

    Hope this helps.

    Matt

I dont think that is totally accurate.

I renewed a provisional that was nearly 5 years expired during the week and the €15 fee was waived for some reason!

Stumped as to why exactly as I had the card in hand waiting to pay and the chap said I didnt have to pay.

Um, well I got my provisional renewed a total of 3 times, and each time, I had to pay the renewal of 15e, then when I passed my test, it was 25e for the 10 year licence.

Think ya must have been lucky or somethin:)

Hi you will need prove of address and up to date pps card or insurance card with the number on it.
NDLS is the service running it now so no more tax office.

They take a copy of all the details and take your old licence and photo is taken there.

    Hi,

I had a provisional about 5 years ago, and I don't know were it is. Can I renew it without actually having the expired one?

Get into NDLS office ASAP with a passport and proof of Ppsn and address. You will need to get the learner permit form stamped by a Garda (section 15, lost declaration) If its your 3rd permit, you will also need letter or email proving you've applied for the driving test. Entitlement is for 5 years, once is is expired beyond that you need to start from scratch. All info on www.ndls.ie
