If you were to reserve one now at the full price I take it if its reduced tomorrow that you pay the reduced price?

Knew it... all just a trick to get you to buy the half price HDMI cable with it; that's where they're making the money:P

I'd like to know the answer to that too.

Folks does this TV have the saorview thing that people are going on about? So there is no need for a setbox when the saorview becomes compulsory?

    Thanks in advance :)

Apparently you can't check and reserve it according to the terms/conditions with this offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭pissed

Yeah I have often seen posted here that if you reserve an item (normally at the lower price) if that item goes back to original price then you pay the higher price even though it cost less when you actually reserved. Was'nt sure if the same applied in reverse ..... worth a try maybe ;)

Twice that happened to me I paid the lower price even though it was a misprice.

    Hey all

I have it on very good authority that the TV's cannot be reserved its on a first come first served basis:D

Any reserved are being cancelled so they can be sold from Saturday morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

I checked the stock @ 11.30pm and these are the gory details:
    Ashbourne - 1.
    Carlow - 1.
    Cavav - 5.
    Clonmel - 1.
    Dundalk - 5+.
    Kilkenny Extra - 1.
    Tralee - 1.

Not much chance of getting one. Beat a path to Cavan or Dundalk.:D

Yes, this TV seems to work fine. While it's not Saorview Certified, it still works very well, Aertel Digital et al.

Not available in my local store until Monday:(

Is this offer for saturday only or is it running like the usual promotions for a week or so?

Think it would be pretty lousy of them to cancel reserved orders in fairness.

Regarding the price and reserving, Argos state in their reserve and collect section that:

"Please note that our prices change, sometimes on a daily basis. The price you pay is the price in store on the day you collect your items."

So (if they dont cancel reserved items) you should get it for the cheaper price. I've been caught on that a couple of times when it's increased in price

Just went into my local Argos and lo and behold they didn't have any in stock  I was also 2nd/3rd in the door and the first to want to buy the TV.

The manager gave me a voucher with the TV code and the special price on it and said she would honour the price and she would find out on Monday when they are getting them back in stock.

In fairness the manager was sound and helpful.

I'd doubt they will get them in again, it's last years model so they were probably trying to get the last few out of the business fast.

Well is it not false advertising saying they have these TV's for that price in certain stores, albeit they mention limited stock but I was first in looking for the TV so they didn't even have limited stock they had no stock.

I got the 46" samsung last year for €529, ( bargain alerts thread is still active ) and I bought it on the day but it took 3 weeks to deliver.

In fairness to Argos they kept me fully informed, and delivered in the day they said.

Well worth trying to buy one, try the home delivery line where you can purchase not just reserve..

None in Nutgrove. Got one in Stephen's Green. There were two more at around 10.30 this morning. Other stores had tried to reserve the ones in the Green but the reservations were cancelled as under the offer these can't be held it seems.

This offer only available in Dublin. It's a sale based around the refurbishment in new stores. Just went to the Galway store and they had no knowledge of the offer and their prices were still at the old level.

Apparently a similar sale will happen in the rest of the country when they complete their refurbs in late august.

Stephens Green sold out. There is one there but it's apparently reserved.

Anyone know where there are any others? I asked the girl at the til to check availability in the rest of Dublin and she said there were no more. However, not sure if I trust that.

You can order them in. I checked in a store, just for curiosity's sake. Come on people be positive;) not even a Thanks, ah hell.

I reserved one yesterday and got a confirmation email saying that it will be instore on Tuesday. Is the €359.99 just a special price for Saturday only or is it going to last into next week?

I called them today and they said if you order one, you have to pay full price.

It is a special price for a limited amount of stock that was available in Tallaght, Dundalk and some other store*. It was a first come first served basis. Prety much like the way DID and the rest do their bank holiday sales.

If the OP who posted the partial flyer could post the whole flyer I was told it said that on the bottom, about being limited to refurnished stores and limited quantities. I'll repeat....that is what I was told.

I reserved one in Dundalk yesterday and before I headed off to get it I checked it out with a store in NI. They were adamant no members of staff or management had the ability to cancel reservations, even though I said I had heard it was happening.

They kindly rang Dundalk and told me that it was for certain stores and for limited quantities and that although they were not canceling reservations par se they were never RRP ing at the discounted price, just the first few for x amount of people. So all reservations were at full RRP.

    Hope that makes sense.

*I think it was cavan... see link...(Was trying to find the sale pdf)

    ^^^

I have the original flyer here beside me. The stores this offer was valid in only were Blanchardstown West End,Liffey Valley,Stephens Green,Dun Laoghaire, Nutgrove, Tallaght, Dundrum, Omni Park, Jervis St & Ilac Centre stores.

I was the first up in the Nutgrove Shop looking for the TV and they had none in stock.

Then put in writing your case using CC TV to make your point, being one of the first there.

if the store you visited was valid on the flyer you had and you were one of the first in the store you should have no problem getting the TV at the price advertised.

Simple tbh. I'd be doing it.

Update to this, the manager from the store rang me there to say they don't have any more Samsung in stock so they will offer me a Sony Bravia 40" EX401 - I presume it is for the same offer price they where doing the Samsung for.

Is this a better TV? and more importantly does it have saorview?

    Hi,

I just picked it up there but on the box it says Sony Bravia EX 4|40. (note that is not a 1 between the two 4's just a line).
However there is a sticker saying EX401 but that looks like it was put there by Argos.

Is that definitely the Sony Bravia EX401 that she told me it was and gave me the catalogue number of to confirm it in the Argos catalogue?

I would say it is yes, 4/40 possibly refers to 400 series TV's. Double check model # on the back of the unit.

Did they match the Samsung price?

Ah but you weren't the first person inside the door, the staff were. I was picking up a printer around closing in my local Argos two weeks ago and the manager had called the staff around to tell them about a special offer and asked them who wanted one. One member of staff took out her phone and rang her mother first and then her sister asking did they want the item reserved at the special price saying that if she didn't make up their mind they'd be gone the next day to customers and that they technically weren't supposed to reserve the item.

I bought this on boxing day last and the numbers had changed as you described.

Dont worry though its a fine telly and picks up saorview.
