I have accepted a place in Napier starting in September 2011. I have since received two bad reviews. I am entering year three of the electrical engineering course. Would anyone one have any experience of this college or course?

I assume it's Napier in Edniburgh!?

A friend of mine went from ITT to Napier to finish off his engineering degree and didn't have anything bad to say about it.

He's still over there and working in the field he wanted to be working in coming out of it, so that's good enough for me.

Over studying in Scotland myself, know a lot who go to Napier, went in to 3rd year similar to yourself. They all like it, although they are finishing off their Civil Engineering now, they said that they weren't as busy as they expected but it still was worth it. I hope someone can spread light on the actual course for you.

i done my dip in lyit, a few mech eng lecturers came over promoting it as a place to go after for the degree. when questioning them on the grades we would need, they said:

'distinction gets you into final year, merit gets you into the penultimate year, and if you fail, give me a call and we will sort something out', the last statement put me off.

if you get offered a place in a better uni then i would take it but beggars cant be choosers.

at the end of the day, your university only matters for your first job (if even). after that, as long as you have the letters it dosnt matter where they came from.

just make sure your course is accredited by www.engc.org.uk

Doing an MSc in Napier at the moment, I have no complaints. Qualifications are very well regarded in Scotland anyway, and are accredited by the Engineering Council. The place is full of Irish people, there was two of us in a class of 12 but just hanging around campus you'd be forgiven for thinking you were at home.

One of my direct reports with a Diploma in EE quit his job to go get his degree there, came back a year later and we employed him again.

He had received a very good education and a huge confidence boost possibly from living abroad, paying for his own education. The experience had transformed him into a good capable engineer. He left us 12 months for a design job with a top-end audio technology company to move to England to marry the girl he met at Napier.

Now I can't promise that you will get the girl..... But I believe that Napier is a good school and like all the best things in life, you will get out of it what you put in....

Best of Luck, Scotland is a grand country to visit for a couple of years.
