I failed a module in the 1st semester..got 38 in it- the lecturer said i should be able to pass by compensation though. I don't think I did too well in another one in the second semester..think I will find it hard to pass it! Can you pass by compensation on two subjects?? Thanks

If the total credits of the modules combined are not more than 10, and your overall average is at least 45%, you can compensate provided you get 35% or more.

However, be aware in some courses you are unable to compensate if Exemptions from Professional Bodies exist - like in AF or ACM.

thanks so much for your help. The two modules combined are equal to ten, so hopefully if I fail the one I think I have, I will be eligible for compensation.

    Thanks again :)

sorry! but do you have to apply for compensation or will it automatically be seen in my results when they come out??

It's automatically applied to your published results

Its a small point, but do remember compensation is not automatic. It is at the discretion of the Progression and Award Board. They may choose to (or not) grant compensation within the University rules.

Hi Sorry just seen your reply. Thanks! So does that mean tomorrow when i receive my results...i may not be compensated for that module?? Won't that mean I fail and have to repeat. Is there a high chance that this could happen :/ Im all worried now

If tomorrow, when you get your results, it says '38' but the letter grade is something other than 'F' (`can't remember the letter) then you have passed by compensation, however, if the letter grade says F you have not passed by compensation and you will have to repeat. Basically, it's decided before results come out whether you have passed by compensation so whatever it says says tomorrow is final, provided you don't appeal. I would imagine, provided compensation is possible in the module, and for some it's not possible, and you have not failed other modules, you will pass by compensation.

No it says R if you have to repeat. I failed a module and I got an R. According to this: www.dcu.ie/registry/forms/pdfs/resits_2011.pdf
it costs 190EUR to resit an exam. Thats pretty ****ed up. Thank god I only have to repeat 1.

From what I remember, I think it's just one payment of €190 to resit all the exams, regardless of how many you failed.
