    On a regular basis?
I have to take weekly/every other weekly trips from Cork city to Kerry and unfortunately its getting a wee bit expensive with the bus being 24 for students and the train around 30- any one know of any private companies that go regularly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The only one I know of is Collegelink, but it's 12 each way.

    http://www.collegelink.ie/routes_prices.html

Incidentally, checking www.irishrail.ie, the student return rail fare is coming up as €19.80 between Cork and Tralee and certainly not €30.

Bus Eireann online Student return fare is €21.60 (10% discount).

Where are you seeing a student return rail fare on the irish rail website? No rail fares are listed for any journey between Cork and Tralee. The cheapest online fare for students that I found was €14 one way on the first train of the day if booked in advance of course.

There is however a cork/Kerry day saver ticket available for travel between Tralee Mallow and Cork for €10 (one way?) but only available after 9am

Perhaps try selecting a train in each direction and then click on "check price" at the bottom.

Hey presto you will see that the student return fare is €19.80.

That is damn expensive. I'd say Kilkenny/Dublin is in or around the same distance and I think you can get a bus return for like 16euro and that's not even a particularly competitive route.

Thanks just had a look at that and you are correct but afaik that is a web fare and on the lower end of the scale and may be subject to large hikes as more tickets are sold for a journey so the op may not be able to avail of that fare depending on when.they want to book and travel.

And that is one of the main issues people have with Irish rail, nothing is ever clear and laid out in such a way it can be used or understood. Having basic as well as comprehensive fares information available to the public on the website(not just online fares) would help but is most likely beyond the capability of the company.

Student return is €19.80 on the train, BUT you have to have the student travelcard.

Alternatively, it's less than €20 return in petrol in my lovely green 1.2 punto, maybe advertise and see if you could liftshare? I'm sure you're not the only one up and down.
