Realised I haven't seen a new good cop/crime thriller in ages.

Last two I saw that I liked were District 36 and The Usual Suspects again when it was on a while back.

I think I've seen all the main ones and I'm really hoping I haven't run out.

Help me boards.ie, you're my only hope.

Internal Affairs with Richard Gere, Pride and glory with Colin Farrel and Ed Norton are both worth a look.

Either of the French Connections are great.
If you haven't seen Training Day I'd recommend.
    Ditto with Copland.

agree on The Town, really decent crime thriller, Affleck is becoming a really accomplished director

Check out The Friends of Eddie Coyle, a great cops and robbers movie from the 70's featuring Robert Mitchum. It's fantastic. (Affleck liked it so much he ripped off a few scenes for The Town).

In fact, you could have a whole weekend of great American 70's crime thrillers - it's been downhill for this genre ever since!

Charley Varrick, Point Blank, The Seven-Ups, Serpico and The French Connection would round out a great weekend's viewing.

Dark Blue - Kurt Russell, Ving Rhames, Brendan Gleeson.
    Very underrated imo.

The Original 'Manhunter' from the 80s & Silence of the Lambs.

Also Witness with Harrison Ford & Kelly Magillis, haven't seent that in a while so don't know how well its aged.

The Untouchables with Kevin Costner, Robert DeNiro & Sean Connery a stunning film with some great performances.

We Own the Night was a good yarn starred Robert Duvall & River Phoenix's brother (not attempting to spell his name)

Oh and Point Break with Keanu Reeves. Great Show with plenty of action.

download and watch The Chicago Code, unfortunately it only lasted the one series but it does wrap everything up at the end
not as good as The Wire or The Shield but if you want to kill about 8 hours definitely get it

    The Fugitive

A great Film I highly recommend is The Naked City - very unusual. Hard to belive it was made in 1948. It starts slow but it builds and builds.

I think LA Confidential and Heat have already been mentioned, but what about Collateral? All three are great Los Angeles crime thrillers, showing the seamier side of the city.

Another one I recommend is Insomnia: Christopher Nolan directing Al Pacino, with Robin Williams also excellent in a serious role, set up in Alaska.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

    The Bone Collector

Angelina Jolie & Denzil Washington, I loved that film

+1 to Charlie Varrick, Serpico, The French Connection, Heat, Zodiac and L.A. Confidential.

    I also recommend:
Prince of the City - similar to Serpico, same director, and just as compelling. Felt like I ran a marathon after watching it last night.

The Taking of Pelham 123 - the original is excellent. Haven't seen the remake but I've heard it's awful.

Sea of Love - good John Goodman / Al Pacino film

Memories of Murder - stunning Korean film that's similar to Zodiac, in time it'll go down as a classic, hopefully

Cop Land - Sylvestor Stallone's best performance in a tale about police corruption. Also features Harvey Kietel, Robert De Niro and Ray Liotta.

M - very old film about a serial killer on the loose forcing the police force and the criminal gangs to start a massive hunt for him

Fargo - focuses a tad more on the criminals than the cops but it's essential you see this

Coogan's Bluff - good if not exceptional Clint Eastwood film about an Arizona cop sent to New York to collect a prisoner only to find that things get more complicated

The Stranger - compelling hunt to track down a Nazi in South America

Dark Blue - Kurt Russell, Ving Rhames, Brendan Gleeson.
    Very underrated imo.

Watched this last night due to this recommendation

Very good film and it links to riots after the Rodney King/LAPD trial for background so you can kind of relate it it and the riots

If the OP likes French thrillers La Balance (the Informer) is quite good.

I would put up the link to the trailer on youtube but one of the shots is a bit rude :pac:. Its a good American style film actually directed by an american Bob Swaim I think.

Will give it a look, thanks.

So far from the replies here I've watched

Brooklyn's finest - not bad, wtf were they thinking casting Richard Gere though?

The taking of P123(original) - excellent.

Narc - Gritty as hell. Didn't enjoy it but enjoyed it if you get my meaning.

On the to watch list are Zodic, To Live and die in LA and the aforementioned La Balance.

+1 to whoever mentioned Memories of Murder - awesome film.

    Right back again.

    Zodiac - very good.

To Live and die in LA. Seriously 80's but wellworth watching.

Couldn't get 'La Balance' anywhere but got 'Bon Cop Bad Cop' and 'La Scorta'. Will hopefully watch the first tomorrow.

Another couple I've seen recently that I haven't mentioned here but everyone should see are:

    A Prophet

Tropa de Elite and the sequal

Anyway, I think it's approaching the end though. I'm running out of Cop/Crime Thrillers. Time to pick a new genre :D
