    Hi

I just changed the fuel filter in a 2006 1.9 dci 100 renault trafic. I changed the O rings also however now i cannot prime the filter. I feel like the prime bulbe has no suction, any suggestions?

Make sure you have fuel in the tank first of all. Next make sure the pipes off the filter are put on correctly.
Try disconnect the pipe after the primer and start priming it to push any air out. When you get a steady flow of fuel attach the pipe back on and try start it. Is this common rail? If not you might have to bleed out the injectors.

Does the ignition have to be on to prime the fuel?

Do you have any way of sucking the fuel through the filter housing, sometimes the valve in the primer bulb is stuck so it wont work.
Also some of these have an in tank pump and Ive seen one with tank pump and primer bulb also fitted.

Would a vacume pump on the outflow work?

There is air coming through the priming pump, the tank has only two bars of fuel, is it possible thaat it is not picking up fuel in the tank

Did you put the pipes on the filter correctly, right way around?

PROBLEM SOLVED, Thankyou for all your help. I posted both here and on boards.ie.

Crosshair1 kindly suggested that the valve in the priming pump may be stuck. (A regular occurance) He suggested that i get a vacume source to draw the fuel.

    1. I put an extra 5 litres of fuel in to the tank incase the gauge was incorrect.

    2. Opened filler cap, there was a vacume in the tank (air hissed in)

    3. Removed prime pipe from the fuel filter, stuck baby finger in to pipe, squeeze primer (Finger out) releases primer (Finger in). I know it sounds stupid, i could hear the fuel being draw up the pipe.

    4. Once the fuel flowed, pipe back on, kept priming til filter was full.

I now suspect the previous person who serviced the van thought the pump was punctured and taped it up.

I priced a new priming pump, €164 plus vat in Kildare. Baby finger was cheaper. Thanks for all your time.biggrin.gif
