A bit of a blank canvas here but thought I’d see what the dos and don’ts are surrounding our idea for our honeymoon kicking off in May 2012??

We’re hoping to spend 18 weeks away split pretty much 50/50 between Asia and South America
    Our route is
    India
    Nepal
    Chain
    Vietnam/Cambodia

Across to S.A (via Sydney for cheapest flight options but only a few days in Sydney)
    then…

    Chile
    Peru
    Bolivia
    Brazil…

    and home

    Sound reasonable – possible??

So anyone any tips on what’s a definite or what not to miss – and possibly on how long to stay in each country??

All depends on how much time you want to spend in each country.

    You have 18 weeks

    So:
9 weeks in Asia, which means 2 weeks for each country (+ 1 week for travelling between each country/resting)

That's doable - you'll be wrecked at the end of it but you will have seen a lot. Look up all the South America threads on this forum for not-to-be-missed sights (there's a stickie in the forum to guide you).

The one thing is with the massive distances between places you will have to fly a lot. So you'll have to concede that either you will have booked beforehand and have no flexibility if you find a place you love, or else you'll book last minute and pay a lot.

Also, if you're beach people you haven't really factored in any great beach places. India only really has Goa (which many advise against) and Vietnam isn't really known for their beaches either. If you're not into that it's fine though.

Only other thing is you're talking a lot of different climates here so your luggage may be huge. It'll be winter in South America (but still only really cold in high places), and summer in India. Be prepared for summer in India. I was there one year when it tipped 50 degrees in Delhi. I highly recommend the Northern hill stations during summer!
