i have 2007 ford focus Cmax and there has been an oil leak in the power steering fluid pipes which i have to get replaced. Mechanic said that C Max models are known to have this problem. I am getting it fixed but i wonder can i get compensation from Ford. I may have missed out on a recall as our Ford dealer closed a few years ago.

There was no recall on this. I suppose yours is a 1.6/1.4 petrol? Cheap enough fix.

1.6 petrol, it will be around 200 euro. i suppose if pump went it would cost a lot more. if there is no recall then there would be no point in trying to claim anything off Ford?

i have a 05 focus and got a pipe or 2 replaced last year, i presume the c max is similar
it cost 80 for the 2 pipes and wasnt a whole lot for fitting either

190 euro for two pipes and fitting. reliable mechanic so paid it. just annoyed that it wasnt my fault as i keep car well and very little mileage, big problem with the c-max.

Have a 06 1.4 focus. Had a leaking power steering pipe. As things were tight i had to let it leak for about a week untill i got the money together. So on the saturday morning left for main dealers to buy new pipes, timing belt and altenator belt. The altenator belt was quite wet in oil so i said id better get one. Main dealers is about 20 miles away but as i got about half way there, altenator belt broke which broke the timing belt cover and the altenator belt some how managed to get pulled in by timing belt........ End result 16 bent valves

That situation may have been caused by the PS fluid leaking onto the belt, weakening it but that would be difficult to prove. Either way the fluid would have to have been leaking for a good while top weaken the belt to that extent so Ford could just say that it wouldn't have happened if you'd sorted the leak straight away.

Ford haven't done a recal as such but they have recognised the problem because they drastically reduced the price of the replacement pipes.
I remember having one in on a focus that was only a year old at the time(06ish) and the pipes were well over €200 just to buy from Ford, now they are €80odd from memory.
