if you were a manager of a newly promoted team from league 1 to the championship and you need a squad overhall on the cheap.

you look to the league of ireland.

whats the best 11 from the loi?
    what formation?
how do you think your team would fare against the current championship teams?

    GK Alan Mannus (Shams)
    RB Ger O'Brien (Bohs)
    CB Pat Purcell (Limerick)
    CB Colin Hawkins (Dundalk)
    LB Enda Stevens (Shams)
    RM Daniel Kearns (Dundalk)
    CM Richie Ryan (Sligo)
    CM Ronan Finn (Shams)
    LM Mark Quigley (Dundalk)
    FW Gary Twigg (Shams)
    FW Karl Shepherd (Shams)

Very hard to leave the likes of Gary O'Neill, Mark Rossiter, Killian Brennan, Eamonn Zayed, Stephen O Flynn, Gary McCabe, Stephen Rice, Anto Flood out of it too...

Keith Gillespie could be PR advisor and Joseph Ndo as fitness advisor.

Week in, week out, after they got up to speed - mid table Championship.

    5 shams in that team.

personal bias or genuinely the best players in that position?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭AstonMartin

One third of teams in the championship pay more on wages than they earn in revenue according to F365 today.

If anything he's leaving out a few. Sivves, Ricer, etc.

Id say a Limerick fan considering he has a Limerick defender in the team :P

Would he even be in a Shamrock Rovers XI??

Dennehy not in there either. I reckon the LOI XI will be properly screwed for this Dublin Cup or whatever its called.

No he doesnt. He's being kept out by Turner, SOD, McCormac. Id rather ricer start tbh even if the likes of SOD are better ball players. he's the balance and inspiration we need in the team IMO.

That and he's the longest standing Rovers player /bias.

Billy, while scoring a lot, has been muck in his overall play. Poor at getting back and very one dimensional. He's just making it hard to drop himself as he's banging them in. Every week he seems to hit the post and crossbar and then maybe bag a goal.

On current form that's not a bad shout, although I'd replace O'Brian with Simon Madden and Jake Kelly with Zayed (With Eoin Doyle just losing out)
Centre backs could be any two of Peers, Kenna, Sives, Murray, Hawkins and Oman.

I didn't rate Madden at Rovers, still don't rate him now. Wouldn't have him near any XI

In my opinion he has been our player of the year so far. I didn't rate him at Rovers myself and wasn't overly impressed with his signing as we already had a decent right back. He has been an absolute rock for us and hasn't had a bad game since he signed last July. He was named captain at the start of the season and has gone from strength to strength

It's not just bias as it would have been easy for me to name Quigley and Kearns who will have a great shot of being in the starting XI of the LOI team against Celtic and Man City

Agree with this, he can be good going forward but he's very suspect at the back, saw him twice this season, against Rovers and Bohs and the damage came down the left side against him twice. Probably wasn't helped with Kearns tracking back though.

I'd have O'Brien, Sullivan and perhaps even Keane and Pender in there ahead of him.

He got done, hard, twice by McCabe / Dennehy in Tallaght.

Far behind Sullivan and O'Brien in the RB league table

No, not Limerick, not Hoops. Used to follow *cough* Fingal; now I'm sitting in the stands at Tolka.
I saw Limerick a few times this year - pre season, in Tolka and elsewhere. Every time I see them they're top class but they've had some sh1te results too.
I would have put Sives in but he's just coming back from injury. Rice? Yeah well I had him on the bench.

Fyck it, I'm playing centre forward.
