Blue Screen Error on Laptop

I took my laptop to Scotland there last Nov'. Brought it back alongside a dreaded blue screen error.

It's still under warranty from PC World so, am I able to go into them about gettin' it fixed/replaced/?

    And will it cost anything?

    (it shouldn't, right?)

    Thanks.

PS: I have done every single thing suggested to try and fix the blue screen since February and I'm out of options now so I'm not really open to any suggestions on fixing it myself anymore lol :P

I thought the warranty only covered hardware not software but I'm not 100%. You could ask/PM Darragh the PC World rep on Boards HERE

Was there a backup / restore function on the laptop? If you boot it up in Safe More you m,ight be abe to restore it back to factory settings and then download AVG or the likes to scan/remove the virus.

Does the Blue Screen stay up long enough for you to see what it says after "STOP"?

Only when I have that option turned on. I can't remember what it says. Something about iaStor.sys or something along those lines.

I've tried every tip given to me but NOW I am unable to start up the computer past the Login screen, it just blue screens and restarts.

Tried all of that before and It never worked. It's actually done like. Dead. Have no way knowing of fixing it what so ever. I spent 3 months tryin every recommended solution given to me and It just keeps popping up every single time i start up the computer now. I've tried all of the Safe Mode stuff, downloading updates, virus scans, registry cleaning. I've reset it to factory settings 5 times. Nothing has worked for me. :(:(

Just as a matter of interest was the drive type controller changed fro AHCI to SATA or vice-versa in the BIOS? The iastor.sys driver may also be a custom OEM one from the manufacturer?
What OS and make of laptop is it

Be aware that shops don't cover any data you have on it, so understand that they'll probably format the machine and reinstall Windows when you give it to them.

And if all else fails, you could do this yourself.

Some version of Windows allow a reinstall-repair, which keeps your settings, but reverts back to the origincal version of Windows that you had on your machine when you first got it.

Believe me I would not mind at all if they reinstalled the whole thing like.

I've tried the reinstall repair aswell, took a fair long time to do and then it was all time gracefully wasted as it still kept poppin up blue lol

I think it's AHCI I aint entirely 100% sure. (What would the difference be?)

    I believe it's a Dell Inspiron 1545, Windows 7 OS.

It's not that old like I got it in Xmas 2009 and I never did anything dodgy on it from what i remember. I just used it as a backup computer if I'm downstairs or in the recent situation (being in Scotland for 7 months) as I have a monster computer up in my room for primary use now.

try the widows 7 recovery console, then try extracting the iastor.sys to %systemroot% drivers

    http://www.ghacks.net/2010/06/05/get-the-recovery-console-back-in-windows-7/

if you decide to rebuild, use the original Dell disk, if you dont have that you will need to make a custom version of windows 7 using nlite (it's free) and you can inject the drivers from the dell site into your build

Get the information off it, make a Application & Driver DVD, and a Windows ReInstall DVD (AFAIK, they don't usually come shipped with laptops, and you have to make them yourself), and do a "slow" format, and reinstall Windows.

Before doing this, I could click the key for the system Diagnostics (F12 sometimes), and check the health of the hard-drive, as it sounds like it may be on it's way out.

Go into the BIOS and try changing between AHCI and SATA-you can always revert
