I know there are a few fleet managers, some dealers and a couple of Gardai who frequent this area, so just wanted to know if anybody else had heard of this?

It was raised by a customer of mine on Wednesday as apparently it's mandatory to have all the information loaded up by the end of June. I can honestly say that's the first I've heard of this.

It seems like a good system, and if it stops people who are insured under company policies being stopped for no insurance, then it can only be a good thing, but it doesn't seem like it the word has been spread very well.

I'm also a bit confused as to who is responsible for the updating of the system

Is is the fleet manager within a company, is it the Insurance broker who looks after the policy, is it the owners of the vehicle (in a lot of cases, the fleet company)?

I'll quite often be driving numerous different vehicles each week, which I'm covered to do by our company's blanket fleet policy, but whether these vehicles are on (or will be on) the NFD is another matter. Some are owned by us, some are owned by dealers/manufacturer's.

Anyone else heard of it? www.NFD.ie

If im honest, it sounds made up.

Also sounds like a marketing scam for people to sell you stuff based on your vehicle fleet. Looks more like a way to capture data privately than an actual official channel.

Ive never seen or heard of it.

The nfd.ie domain name seems to be registered to the Irish Insurance Federation (WHOIS), but they have no mention of it on their website, and to be honest, the design (and lack of information) on the site doesn't inspire confidence even if it is legit.

Its not made up, and is totally legit. I got all the bumpf in the post yesterday from my insurance broker and went online and entered my vehicles reg's etc.

The ANPR system is finally getting up to speed so its a good thing.

Edit - from the bumpf -

The road traffic act 2010 requires details of all motor polocies to be made available to the Minister if Transport, the Gardai and the MIBI.

If a registration belonging to you isentered on the NFD it will be placed on a "potentially uninsured" file and forwarded to the Gardai. They will upload that file to their ANPR camera systems etc etc, and you get pulled over etc.

Couple of other things to note -

Fleet Owners and motor traders should only add the details of vehicles in their possession more than 5 days.

Make and model of vehicle does not need to be entered, just the reg.
