LoI this weekend - Back to the real world

After the cup weekend, where all but 1 PD side got through (Forza Youths), its back to business..

    Friday 10th of June 19.45

    Bohs v Sligs,

    Dundalk v Drogs

    Galway v Bray

Pats v (lets all laugh at) Derry

    UCD v Rovers

    ---

Louth derby is obviously the big one, hard to see Dundalk slipping up even though form goes out the window. Rovers should deal with UCD with ease. Pats could see a Derry backlash after their cup humiliation. I think Bohs v Sligs has 0-0 written all over it - neither team are scoring.

UCD have beaten Rovers once since 2002.

    Not exactly our bogie team

    Yep, last year. ;)

Look, I know we haven't much of a hope tomorrow. But you have to be positive you know?

    11th loss in a row.

    11th loss in a row.

What's the structure of Galway like? Will ye survive relegation and have a functioning club next season?

Bray have got to come unstuck at some point. I hear they were poor enough v. Drogs.

Being out at Belfield last season when Boccer lost the rag was probably the sickest I felt last year bar the Fingal or Bohs games shortly afterwards.

Hopefully a better outcome tomorrow. Always like heading to the bowl though.

10 Jun 2011 Cork City 7:45 Athlone Town Turner's Cross
10 Jun 2011 Shelbourne 8:00 Mervue United Tolka Park
11 Jun 2011 Salthill Devon 7:00 Monaghan United Drom Soccer Pitch
11 Jun 2011 Longford Town 7:30 Limerick Flancare Park
11 Jun 2011 Finn Harps 7:45 Waterford United Finn Park

Mervue have a big injury crisis atm, so hoping for an easy win unlike when we played them over in Fahys Fields earlier this season.

That and the rest of the division's games being draws will do for the weekend. :)

A couple of players left them in the last few days too. Some might also be missing because of the Leaving Cert.

    We'll survive.

It's far from a foregone conclusion that we'll go down though. We're level on points with Drogs and there's no automatic relegation this season.

We have to win to stay in the top 4ish, next 3 games away in a ****ing row.

Difficult game but with North and Kavanagh up front we have a chance.

Is Rory Gaffney fit to play for Mervue tonight? Dangerous player.

Not a big fan of the new ground, used to love the old Belfield Park.

This could be the kind of game Galway could sneak a few points in on Drogs

I think Galway represent great value at 4/1 to be honest.

Bray are due a reality check and they're missing a few players tonight. For a two horse race 4/1 is good value imo!

Dunno bout bohs...but Sligo have scored 17 goals in their last 8 games?

We are brutal at home (only scored 4 goals in the league all season at home), and we are missing Ger O'Brien and Ollie Cahill at the back, Daniel Joyce starts. Hopefully Sligo set themselves up to play attacking football rather than sitting in, if they do that it should lead to a good game.

Is Price suspended for Bohs as well?

I believe so, he wasn't mentioned in the article on the website but I see he has been added to it now. Very depleted at the back then, Price, O'Brien, Cahill all out with Rossi and Killian Brennan doubtful. (O'Brien is on that doubtul list to but according to our MB he wont make it).

Hopefully Forrester is in the team after Leaving Cert Maths today. Will be interesting to see how we line out tonight.

City 1 up at HT down the X - cummins - just over 2000 in attendance.

Cummins makes it 2 -0 15min into the second half.

Cracking game tonight could have went either way.

Zayed missed a few sitters and their keeper somehow saved shots he knew nothing about.

Backing teams -1 & -2 when they play Galway is like getting free money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,433 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Ugh. Felt we deserved to be level up to the first goal - very annoying to lose the ball where we did before the concession of the corner concerned. Might have been a different story if the end of our cleverly worked free kick had crept in straight after. Game was over at half time obviously - felt Leahy was unfortunate to be red carded for that challenge to be honest.

Also annoying to be an away fan at your own ground. :)

    Indeed. TNS made more sense.

Ref killed the game in Dalymount tonight, was completely out of his depth. 2 sending offs and I dunno how many bookings and it wasn't even a dirty game....

Sligo probably the better team, but a draw is a fair result imo. O'Connor/Murphy didn't really have to do any major work tonight but Sligo hit the post. Sligo keeper made a great save towards the end from a Christy Fagan shot.

Definite sending off for Joyce, pretty sure he knew exactly what he was doing aswell. He did well to get by a Sligo player but took a heavy touch, looked up to see a Sligo player coming in and went in over the ball at him.

Had a chat with Matt Doherty (Wolves player) in the bar, getting on well over in England. Speaking of the bar, Paul Cook sure can swallow a pint...

Sligo crowd: (There was a few in the Jodi aswell)

He did start tonight, wasn't up to much tbh.

They knew I had Dundalk -1 backed in my two bets which would have netted €170. One being a 40/1 accum.

Shels match was decent, solid performance, top of the table and still going strong.

Yeah Rovers were absolute poison up until they got the first. Then once you went down to ten and than 2 down it was always game over.

Have to admire the fact UCD played on with 2 up front and went for it instead of just shutting up shop and going for damage limitation. UCD goal was a beaut too.

Big game against Londonderry on Monday night. A win would be a big step..

Shows the real value of a fit Twigg. We've been a bit lost at times recently when trying to open up a game with a goal.

Game on Monday plus the Dundalk and Sligo games are going to have a big bearing I think.

Totally agree but you've jinxed it now! The season has been very successful so far, a lot depends on who they keep on during transfer window. If nobody leaves, it'll be great and I think they may do well. Till then, enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm completely disgusted with our performance against Drogheda last night. We have three league games coming up in the next 9 days. We could easily lose all three if we play like we did last night.

Pains me to say it but it really could have. Drogheda had five good goal scoring chances and we had one. Their Keeper didn't have one difficult save to make. Drogheda played like it was a derby and Dundalk played like they only had to turn up.

Just got access to this section we (dundalk) were unbelieveably bad friday night drogheda were full value for there win our players need to take a long hard look at themselves. Hoping for ball no.4 against ball no.5 tonight in the cup draw score to settle. Drogheda crowd was pathethic 80 odd fans coming 20 mins up the road jokeshop.

I'd go for it if I was you. If I wasn't a Dundalk fan I'd bet myself.

We're definitely missing Byrne, Guthrie, Hector, Osbourne, Maher and McDonnell.
Bennett was carried off the pitch against drogs on Friday
