Ok, so I see in todays news that SouthWestern (also known as SouthWestern Services or SWS)have to much fanfare announced the creation of 150 jobs in Clonakility in West Cork.

Well firstly congrads to Clonakility as SWS is having something of a boom in this recessionary time and bringing more jobs to the town. Now I feel thats its important at this stage that I stress that I do not begrudge the West Cork town the new jobs, in fact its great to see jobs been located in areas outside the main urban areas and brings much needed jobs to the area.

So you might ask, whats the story, whats has this chap so riled up that he is writing this??

Well simply it the smoke and mirror magic act that the past government (FF) and the present government (FG) are persisting with in announcing the “creation” of jobs in companies such as SWS.

“What??”, you may say, whats the problem, well simply, SWS is in the business of outsourcing. It takes over the operations of companies that the companies no longer consider they should be hosting, because of cost or strategic reasons. . Traditionally the services outsources are, Finance, Tech Support and HR.

Lets look at two high tech companies in the Irish market and their reasons and the manner in which they recently outsourced. In the cases of both O2 and Vodafone, they have both recently outsourced to SWS and to much fanfare SWS has been applauded in the press for the creation of jobs. However in both cases the numbers made redundant from both O2 and Vodafone collates to the announcement of “new” jobs “created” by SWS. In both cases of O2 and Vodafone there was a very slim chance of any of the former employees getting any of the new jobs are the redundancies in both cases were in Limerick and Dublin ]respectively, a bit of a commute to West Cork!!!

So I make the call to the Government in power, be they FF, FG, Labour, Greens, SF or any other political grouping or combination or permeation , please stop announcing these outsourcing “jobs”, they are not "new" jobs, in the present market for each of these jobs outsourced, its costing the Irish taxpayer a minimum of €20K, from a combination of benefits, be it, job seekers, dole, medical cards, etc, etc.....
The Irish people are not idiots, we can see what is happening, so DO NOT treat us as such and stop acting like cheap magicians, with smoke and mirrors act!!

You have a certain point poster, but when I hear outsourcing mentioned I invariable recall a semi-state company whom I had dealings with and who had their own 'in-house' maintenance people such as painters, carpenters, plumbers, fitters, etc etc.

The painters had a task to paint a large room, and the task I would have estimated would have been finished in four days max.

Two and a half weeks, yes weeks, later they were still at it as other jobs built up!!!!

Most of the time spent talking to everyone who came within an asses roar of them and amongst themselves.

Eventually that company ,after much resistance brought in outsourced labour and jobs were completed in a fraction of the time and cost.

That is what can happen, not suggesting that it the case all the time but, when a certain group get too complacent and greedy, it's a possibility.

Why did you feel the need to press the 'quote' button when you are the first responder? We don't need to read the OP all over again when it's sitting right above your post.

There is a 'Post Reply' button on the left which is more appropriate, especially for such a lengthy post using a big font.

Hmmm.... How do I know I am the first responder big boy?

My post is of such length, and given such considered attention to detail and correctness, that at least 4 responses could have been given prior to mine establishing itself in it's slot. For example:

    1..Yore Ma

    2..Blast them with Piss

    3..

    4..Atari Jaguar.

So, big boy ,have you some way of holding the ground on Boards.ie whilst your lengthy and considered post is in gestation and having a painful birth?

Or are you just some psuedo smart-ass who didn't think out their reply?

    We'd love to know;)
