If you ring someone on O2 or Meteor or whatever from a landline and they answer in another country does it cost more and show up on the bill or does it just look like a normal call and the person who's abroad picks up the extra fee?

Other person pays the cost. . .its the same cost for you regardless of if they are Ireland or whereever (when they answer)

Maybe it's going to evolve into a more sinister story Mike 1972, hence it being in AH to start with...

It costs you the same, the person with the mobile** phone more, as it is they who are roaming

** the clue is in the name, as they have a mobile phone, how are you/me/anyone supposed to know where the owner of said phone is when we call it?

Okay thanks for the info, one final clarification, if I tell my boss Im down in Galway doing something work related but Im actually in Spain for a couple of days and he rings my O2 PAYG mobile which I know he will, it will just look like a normal call to him with no evidence of what Im doing whatsoever?

I'm pretty sure he'll hear a spanish ringtone: beeeeeeeeeeeeep rather than the Irish beep beeeeep

And if you don't answer it goes through to your voicemail with a Spanish person speaking broken English.

Divert your phone to voicemail before you leave for Spain. From memory, it will appear that you're just diverting to voicemail with no indication that you're abroad.

If your boss notices the different ringback tone, tell him it's 'cause you're near the Spanish Arch ;)

When you call to the phone abroad, you get different "beep" even before person answers the phone. Only way around is diverting to voicemail and calling back, but even then it might be "eccoish" or like double signal, happens always when i call from landline abroad. Even to other landline.
