Plax released from prison

Just seen in on sky sports website Plaxico Burress has been released after almost 2 yrs in prison for bringing an unlicenced gun into a night club and letting it go off shoting himself in the thigh.

Looking to find a team for the new season ( if there is one ). I can't see the Giants taking him back.

At 34 can he still do it after a 2 yr break ?

He really shot himself in foot ( or thigh:D) with what he did !

Jets would be a good fit. Unlikely they'll have both Braylon and Holmes around next year.

Maybe the Bengals could take him and Moss to replace their mouthy ageing receivers. Should be a seamless transition :pac:

    Raiders maybe
    What's his 40 time?? :D

Bengals should hold onto TO in my opinion.
He still has a future in the league. 983yds & 9 TDs and he didn't play a full 16 games last year
Someone will sign him if he goes

Surprised if anyone goes for him. 34 is very old and when there are youner guys like Chad Johnson and Steve Smith most likely available.

this comment is surprising for a number of reasons

    a) Vicks emergence after a hiatus in prison has shown that prisoners can stay in shape

    b) Red-zone targets with Plax's height, relatively soft hands and ability for the jump ball are relatively rare in free agency, he is also clutch as seen in his SuperBowl year .

    c) he will be signed just like TO in 09 & '10 to a heavily incentivised deal ...so where is the risk

    d) General Managers in the NFL do not seem to equate his crime to some other more serious issues ....he had few police problems before this and whilst he had diva tendencies his crimes have been wholly self-inflicted

I would be highly surprised if the Rams (need a better level of reciever), Redskins (if they lose Santana Moss) or Cleveland (didnt draft the reciever they needed) , Bears (they have a relatively small reciever corps ...dont run the rule on him and Michael Vick has made no secret in wanting him to come to Philly

so you can see why i disagree ...as to the age issue he has no tread on the tyres in 2 years so he is effectively a 32 yr old posession reciever who doesnt depend on his speed ...more his height and strength ...he has more in common with a Moss ...Derek Mason ...Hines Ward type where age isnt the same issue as they have shown

Can see TO in St Louis on a heavy incentive deal ...would suit both sides

Vick was 28 or 29 when he was released in prison. At that age 4 years is a big difference. Not only that but he didn't shoot himself in the leg either. I never said there was a massive risk, but I wouldn't see the point in signing him. I think a lot of teams would be happy to go with younger WR's as their 2-3rd WR and if they wanted a number 1 they would look else where is FA and wouldn't risk taking a punt on a 34 year old who will have to be replaced in 2 years time anyway.

The lockout certainly suits him, gives him the time to get in shape for tryouts.

Have to agree with neilster in what he is saying there tbf. And the age thing really is not an issue because he hasn't been taking hits during that time.

The Rams have a lot of young recievers they want to develop and an experienced one in Mark Clayton who was playing great before his injury.

Can't see the Rams going for him.

Washington maybe. And not just their reputation for free agents. It's not a crazy move, they have a need at WR so it's a sensible move.
At the very least try him out in training camp

I'd love to see Plax given another go in the NFL however it's hard to see what team is going to take a chance on him, possibly Washington

Oddly enough, I can see a team like the Pats or another team with a good infrastructure taking him. Put him in an environment where there's a good team ethic, have good support around him and give him time to adjust.

I think thats how you will get the best out of him TBH.

i know Vick was younger but again Plax is a possession reciever...loss of speed is not an issue ....there are yound WRs but the Raiders and Rams have no one on their roster with his skillset ....his wound was soft tissue damage to the leg at short range very close to the spot where he concealed his weapon

damn shame to see him go to waste

The Rich Eisen podcast can be very buddy buddy, not exactly hard hitting reports

Still Plax gave a very good interview and was impressive, it's worth a listen

Loss of speed isn't a issue at all, even "possession" receivers need to be quick. Also raiders love speed, we won't bother going after a 34 year old possesion WR.

Signed for the Jets.........heard it on ESPN radio but didn't get much coverage as it was slap bang in the middle of Baseball trading window closing.
