Try as I might, there is a certain part of my brain that refuses to tie a tie. I just can't do it, it always crumbles apart and my self esteem plummets. Does anyone else suffer from this disorder and do they know of a cure?

Get an elastic tie, like the one you had in school. Ya big baby!

Yeah, I was the same for ages then had to learn for a wedding and it just stuck, now I'm blasting out half-windsors and four in hands all over the place. I'd recommend the tie-a-tie site too.

I've always wondered who invented ties. They are the least practical thing I have ever come across.

Theres a free app called Easy Tie Pro for android phones that'll show how to to do different knots.
Seems pointless, but is handy to have different knots for different style shirts/collars.

    pretty practical for erotic asphyxiation.
There you are walking about like a civilised person in a responsible job when ye get the urge for a wee choke and pull.Just find a closet or a bathroom,go purple for a bit then back on your merry way.

This isn't a perfect knot but it's ok

Start with the four-in-hand knot; it's the simplest knot to tie.

to me tieing a tie requires....
    practice

then you just half to practice how you mould the knot :D

its easy and womens like a nicely tied tie.....

  • I feel your pain, I also cannot tie a tie.

Other thing I should be able to do but can't: Tie a balloon - impossible task for me. :o

It's simply about practicing. Use an old tie and practice a few times every day. Seriously.

If it's simplicity you're after then the Four in Hand (as mentioned previously) is by far the simplest to master.

I think it's like riding a bike - a lot easier to do when learned as a kid than an adult. We had to wear ties from primary school so it became second nature. Strangely enough our parents never gave us the ties with the elastic neckband.

I can perfectly tie my own tie but cannot tie someone else's tie for them. Odd!
