Could the young Jackdaw be stuck in our chimney?

Jackdaws built a nest in our chimney and laid two eggs. We checked the nest about three weeks ago to see if there was anything left in it and one chick had hatched out. The parents still came to the nest with food.

Recently we've noticed both parents hanging around the chimney and looking in at the young bird and we can hear the young Jackdaw calling out every now and then. We're assuming at this stage that the other chick never hatched out as we can only hear one bird calling at a time. Last week I just thought they were trying to lure the young jackdaw out of the nest but now I'm beginning to think he might not be able to get out. Is it possible for him to be unable to hop out? Or would he be ready to leave the nest at this stage? He appeared to have his feathers when we checked the nest three weeks ago.

They might be trying to encourage the youngster to fledge.

something I have always wondered is how far down the chimney do Jackdaws nest

We measured with an arm and we think the nest was between 12 and 20 inches down the chimney. I'm guessing in general they'd only build a certain distance from the top of the chimney in order to avoid getting trapped inside.
