We have maybe 4 or 5 female cats in the back yard and another 2 or 3 males.....unfortunately we've got into the habit of feeding them(most were born in the garden and stay there pretty much most of the time) but it's a problem getting out of hand especially in the Summer months with more kittens.....brought 5 into the DSPCA this week they said they had cat flu so don't know what their fate will be, do they put them down? the girl in there said no but I got the impression that's a standard line given so people can walk away content they did the right thing.....

anyway catching feral cats whats the best method?? we're prepared to bring them in and get them neutered/returned (particularly the females for starters) before things really get out of hand and we're swamped

Fair play to you. If you contact a local rescue they might be able to lend you a trap or give advice on catching them using a dog crate.

Fantastic that you're feeding them already so for a start you could start putting their food into a crate so they get used to going in and out. It will make trapping a lot easier.

And if no rescues have cat traps then you could ask local vets, someone might have. Well done for wanting to get them neutered :)

No choice on getting them done, too many as it is ......might try cats-aid in Ballsbridge, looking at their site I think they provide cages

They do - they are very helpful. They have a better rate with a vet;s in Dundrum - but donations always welcome. Well done you for being proactive.
