Window regulator broken

My Honda Jazz's electric window has stopped working. It'll go down a little bit, then its very difficult to get back up. I brought it to the dealer, who told me it needs a new regulator- 350 euro. I was checking them out on e-bay and you can get second hand ones for €60. My question is how do I know if I need a regulator with or without a motor.

If it's going up slowly, then your motor is worn out. All Honda's get this!

Just replaced one of these in a Nissan (well, my dad did most of the work!:))...

It was only the brushes in the motor that got worn down and corroded with use.
We changed the brushes but it was incredibly tedious and annoying (bit of desoldering/soldering) - but really inexpensive (1 or 2 euro for carbon brushes for a motor).

But for an easy fix, replacing the motor would be the best choice. I'm sure there's some walkthroughs on how it's done online.

Cheap way of doing it if you have a bit of shelter to work on the car - a new motor is more feasible if you're doing it in the open air and have the irish weather to contend with.

Were you able to get brushes to fit or did you have to modify other ones? Where did you get them? I've kept the last two motors I changed out in the hope of refurbishing them if needed.

    what year is the Jazz?

My wife had a 2002 model a few years back and after she sold it she got a 'recall' letter from Honda UK (she bought it when she was living in the UK) and I am sure that the recall was for window problems.

Speak with your local Honda dealership and see if they can shed any light on it.

its 2002. We did get a recall a while ago regarding the windows. Not sure of the details though. Might be worth looking into again.

i just got one from a bmw used on ebay and they all came with the motor... I can recommend a guy who will fit it very cheaply aswell, if you need a mechanic... it could also be a cable or plastic piece that has failed, but you wouldnt know unless you opened door panel, then you may have airbag in way... for E60 id just buy the whole thing used to be honest... I bought a repair pack, i.e cable and plastic clips, it didnt work and wasted time and money!

Long ago I had a FIAT and what happened with it was the wire had unravelled and was clogging up in the housing.

We just took the motor out of the car and brought it inside so luckily weather wasn't a problem, thankfully (because it was really tedious!).

You could give in and around the brushes inside the motor a good clean with contact cleaner etc and it could get you another month or two out of the window. Not really a permanent fix though.

Got some brushes out of a different motor and filed them down to the appropriate size and solder them in.

We followed the following instructions, mostly, for my own car. But you get the idea.
