Blackberry 8520 - data usage

My OH is in need of a new phone and likes the look of the Blackberry 8520. I'm an Android guy myself so I don't know much about Blackberry, but from reading up about them, is it the case that she would have to pay 9.99 a month to be able to send or receive email? She would just be sending the odd email from her Gmail account and wouldn't be a heavy internet user. It will probably be on Meteor pay-as-you go. Thanks!

Yes the Blackberry needs an add-on for email to function properly. On pre pay from meteor it costs 9.99 per month for 1gb, vodafone charge 50 cent per day for BIS and O2 will be launching pre pay BIS soon supposedly.

If she's not using email much then get her to get a regular phone like a nokia.
