Interviewed, but......

Hi all, I recently had an interview for a position that I know that I am very suitable for, anyway to cut to the chase, I have discovered that the position was offered to somebody before my interview (a matter of only hours before). As far as the company is concerned, they would have been unaware that I know this but made me wait until today when I finally received the PFO email. My interview seemed to go well and I was quite optimistic about it. I am now absolutely fuming about this as it seems totally unethical to 1), interview me after offering the job to somebody else and 2), making me wait almost a week to give me the bad news.
I have been out of work for 6 months now and am now getting very frustrated, I can't believe people can behave like this. Am I over reacting?
I also know who was given the job and know that I am better equipped to do the job.

Your anger and frustration is understandable , alas stories like yours are all too common - employers are very much in the driving seat now and unless you feel you were discriminated by them on the grounds of your gender , race , etc then there really is little you can do.

It's awful but it happens. I was devestated recently after going for a job I was perfectly qualified for and would have loved doing. I did a flawless interview, best one I've ever done and really thought I'd nailed it.
I got a call a few days later from HR saying how perfect my interview was, how I would be the ideal candidate and how they couldn't fault me on anything- this was followed by "but we've decided to go with someone already in the company."
I later found out this person had no experience in the role, just the fact that they already worked for the company at a lower level. What made it worse was the praising phonecall leading to the rejection.

I feel for you OP, it sucks to be jobsearching these days.

It really sucks I know, I`ve been there..
Done the 1 and a half hour interviews
    the second interview
then not even a PFO email after to let you know

Being unemployed really makes you humble, I`ll never treat anyone like that. If I was the interviewer the first thing I would say to someone going into an interview is "thanks for coming in and making the time to do so I hope this goes well for you....".:)
Instead all we get now-days is a bunch of X-factor judge wannabies who like to impress there superiority on us.
    ah enough of the ranting.........;)
