Finding out if I have a criminal record.

Hi. I was just wondering how I would go about finding out if I have a criminal record.
The backround is that around 12-13 years ago I had to go to court for possession of a small amount of illegal drugs. I was ordered by the Judge to pay some money to the court poor box. I don't know if this amounts to an actual conviction/record or if it was just a warning. The only reason I can give for not knowing is that I was young, stupid and didn't have the right interest.
So if anyone could give me some advice on how to find this out I'd be very greatfull.
    Thanks in advance.

Get done for something else. Chances are your solicitor will be given a copy.

I doubt very much you have a conviction.

Paying money into "The Court Poor Box" is normally followed by the matter being dealt with by way of Dismissal Under Section 1.1. Probation Act 1908 which is not a conviction

For more information on "The Court Poor Box"

However the best course of action is ask the solicitor who represented you, they should have a record of the result of the case.

@Croc thanks for the fast reply. I'm hoping that the donation was in lieu of conviction. The link was very helpful. I don't remember the solicitors name so can't go that route. I guess I was hoping that there would be some central government body who would have all that information. Something like areuacon.ie.
@Zambia I might file that one under measures of last resort. ;)

Why not contact the courts with the date of the case and ask them what the judge ordered?

Have you considered just ringing your local Garda station, explaining the circumstances and having them check your Pulse ID?

It was either a probation act, or else it was struck out. Sometimes judges won't even apply the probation act and will just strike the thing out if you pay money to charity. I would recommend phoning the guards above anyone else. They are the ones responsible for maintaining records of previous convictions, not the courts.

Thanks to everyone who answered above.
I found what I was looking for. It's a Data Protection Access Form. You send it to Thurles along with about 6.35euro and they send you the info. The instructions are on the form.
    Here's a link:
