    Hi,
I'm planning a road trip starting in Tipp heading west until we hit the coastline and then turning north. We are planning on hugging the coastline the whole way up to north Mayo and the coming back down basically along the Shannon.
Anyone ever do this before? What are the things that we can do? Any local(and when I say local I mean isolated) pubs we can visit during the night? Any discussion in general would be appreciated..
There are two full cars going too....
    Thanks.

Head for Dingle. Do the Slea Head drive. Tigh TP in Baile na nGall is the spot.

    Sorted.

Never did it as one trip, but have done all of it at one time or another.

Great scenery. I'm sure that you will want to get out and walk a good bit. If you really hug the coast roads, it's quite a long trip you have in mind. How much time are you giving this?

Some things to consider: Connemara National Park at Letterfrack; boat trip on Killary Harbour (starts near Leenane); Céide Fields near Ballycastle in north Mayo. If you like old stuff, go as far as Sligo and include Carrowmore megalithic cemetery and a boat trip on Lough Gill to Parkes's Castle.

Just wing it. I've done the Mayo coast and the Galway coast on separate trips, about 10 days for each one. Plenty of walking and a few completely unexpected overnight stops. If we foud a nice pub during the day we just stayed local that night.

My mum lives in Clifden so I tend to recommend there for the night but Westport is nice too.

Get lunch in o'dowds in roundstone.

The problem with stopping in Roundstone is that it is difficult to leave it.

    Beware the gaeltacht...

Some people get so lost they have to be helicoptered out. Its the lack of hills I believe.
