Senna - The Movie

We went to see this in the IFI last night, its a documentary on his racing career and I can only urge anyone interested in motor sport to go and see it.

The film only uses archive footage with commentary from people who knew him, some of it is very fly on the wall and it gives what I think is a fabulous insight into probably the best driver of all time. It deals not only with his relationship with Prost, one of the most intense driver partnerships ever but his attitude to the way the sport developed moving into a more technological era and his fights with the Machiavellian charachters who ruled the sport, more often than not to the sports own detriment.

At the end there is a cut from a interview where he was asked who was the best driver he ever raced against past or present.... the answer alone is worth the ticket price. ;)

I went to see it last friday....enjoyed it but I think it focused on the positives and not really about the bad traits of Senna but I would still recommend it. Its great to be reminded of F1 when it was really the drivers who shone and not the car and also some of the passing is brilliant....something thats really missing today.

Looking forward to seeing this myself, but a bit concerned it would get caught up in the positives given his untimely death - BTW a book recommenation, if you want a view of someone who saw the warts and all Senna - "Crashed and Byrned" - on Amazon - ignore the mad prices for a new copy it's a few years old, you'll pick up a copy for cents if you shop around...

If enough boardsies are interested, I can organise a private boards only cinema screening at Mahon Point. Would be an unsocial hour like a Sunday morning or something, but it's still great to have the cinema to yourself.

should do, highest grossing docu of all time seemingly already

It's pretty damn good, though paints Prost in a pretty unfavourable light.

Also proves Ron Dennis wasn't always a total arse

Saw it last Friday in the IFI too, well worth a trip to the cinema.

The drivers' briefings footage was great, and even though you know how it ends it's still quite emotional in the final few minutes.

Also was just nice to see and hear what were in my opinion the best looking F1 cars ever from the late 80s/early 90s on a big screen with big screen sound.

I saw this last week in Liffey Valley. Really really enjoyed it. I would be surprised if I don't end up going to see it a second time before it's finished in the cinema. It is biased, but definitely worth the watch. I would highely recommend it

I disagree, I thought Prost was very "French" yes but unfavorable, no.
I have a *cough* copy but no subtitles. The Mahon point idea would be cool imo.
