Deteriorating eyesight

    Hi All

I could really do with some advice. I have been noticing lately that my eyesight seems to be deteriorating. Up close I can see everything very clearly but I am starting to have problems reading writing at distance. I have mostly noticed it when trying to read menus on a TV, the writing is very blurred and it’s almost like there are two images which overlap. I have never worn glasses and all my eye tests in the past have been excellent. I work on a computer all day which I am sure doesn’t help and I only sleep 6hrs a night on average (not sure if this matters). I’m 26 so I don’t really think it could be age related.

I was just looking for advice really for reasons that this would be happening or ways to prevent it or strengthen my eyes again. I would love to have you opinions on whether I should get my eyes tested again. I think I will but I would prefer not to wear glasses as I have read it can make you eyesight worse. Sorry for the rant and I would appreciate any advice or opinions. Thanks :D

Glasses do not make your eyes worse that is a myth put out by people who don't want to wear glasses but have to. Or that they are conscious about wearing glasses. If your eyes are straining get them tested. The Optician will give a professional opinion whether you need glasses or not. The Optician is ethically bounded to tell you if you need glasses or not. Wearing glasses will relieve eye strain, but what happens with people is your brain adapts to a level of clarity from wearing the prescription. So when you get used to wearing glasses you brain basically decides it doesn't like the level of clarity without the glasses. Don't wear the glasses for a few days and the reverse happens.

Johnayo gave you sound advice get your eyes tested. Good luck and let us know how you got on if you go.

PS If you have a medical card or you are in paid employment (not self employed) you could be entitled to a free eye test. If you have either of these mention this when you are enquiring about getting a test.

The eyes are like any other part of the body. They can be fine for years and then you suddenly feel that there is a problem. The problems is usually there for a while but you didnt notice or you could cope and make allowances. I have to say that it sound like you need an eye test and you need the opticians to check the way both of your eyes work together. I did that in an opticians in Nutgrove and it helped.
