Should I Wait.....

I'm thinking of buying my parents a Humax Foxsat HDR 500GB Freesat HD, but I was wondering should I wait till there is a Freesat/Saorview box PVR. It would be handy to have the one PVR for both.
Is there any in the pipeline?
The Humax is pretty expensive so I would like to hear some of you experts opinions.
    Thanks.

If it is not an absolute need at present then wait ..... otherwise go for it ......

Prices will drop and more options will become available as time passes .... or so I believe :D

The big problem is that Freesat is a UK system to give TV to those without DTT, so there is no real market for a combo box with Freesat. The only combo systems that might work for you are the Freesat TVs but they have virtually disappeared.

Combo boxes will be FTA and not likely to be Saorview certified, but there may be a few. The Freesat is much more important as it is the only way currently to get a 7 day EPG.

So go Freesat HD at the least.

There will never be a dual certified combo receiver. All the current combos have limitations. The more expensive Linux based combos can do a lot but I wouldn't give one to my parents.

The Humax is a nice piece of kit though, but it is relatively expensive when you also need to factor in something for Saorview.

Thanks, judging by the reviews of the Ferguson combi in the other thread I think a seperate PVR for Freesat HD and Saorview might be the best solution for the future.
P.S. Are there any Certified Saorview PVR's yet?

There are working combo's, but they are always going to be restrictive has they aren't true PVR's.

I wouldn't rule out a combo, if they would mainly be using at as a straight receiver, but be aware that there is ongoing maintenance of a FTA receiver, as if a channel moves you have to retune.

There's no certified PVR's yet. Some of the certified receivers can record, but they aren't dual tuners.
