Corsa C PS troubles!

Well, my girlfriend just got her new Corsa C 1.2. Great car, quiet, refined and powerful (compared to my Corsa B). Oh, and an auto too. Lovely. Anyway, I was in it with my girlfriend in a private car park, helping her park the car. She was driving and I noticed it was taking her a lot of effort to move the steering wheel.

Instantly I thought "Oh shit, the steering column motor's failed". I know a bit about Opels, and this is a common failure point. Is there a cheap way of fixing it, by any chance? We don't have much money. I know we can get it remanufactured, but could it just be a fuse or something?

    Opels

I have a corsa c and have the same problem. They steering rack was replaced in my car, yet the proble remains.

After much searching on the Internet I found that the torque needs to be reset to remedy the problem. It is a simple, cheap and quick job.

I'm on my phone now so I can't provide a link. But look this up before you pay it for a new steering rack/column, many garages will try to convince you that this is he problem when it is not.

    There ya go ;)

Thanks. Not sure if that's the problem as it's hard to turn both ways!

Speaking from experience its usually the steering column and not the eps motor, but not always, I have changed both, but more columns. Best way to be sure is to have it properly checked to be sure before doing anything.

The majority of garages will tell it's the steering rack though, to get more money out of you.

I wouldn't trust an Opel dealer to speak my weight, quite frankly.

I take it you have had a bad experience with a dealer before. Not all dealers are evil garages, some may be bad, but not all.

Im only giving you my personal opinion of what I think your problem may be. And I've fixed enough of them.

A bad experience with my parent's Vectra B and Meriva A, my own Corsa B is a heap of 23mpg crap and now my gf's Corsa C has a failed steering rack at 35000 miles. I appreciate your input but trusting a dealer to say 'Ah sure it's only the motor' is a step too far.

That said, if you can direct me to a good Opel dealer/indie in Dublin North I'd be grateful.

Im not saying you need to trust a dealer to just say its only the motor, plenty of people will come on here saying its X Y and Z, which is only just guessing. Im just saying the only way to fix it without guessing is to have it properly checked, and from experience, the motor is less likely to be the problem, but its still a possibility. This is why you need it checked as guessing can turn into a very expensive way to do it. And as for a good dealer to trust, Im on the southside so I dont know which to recommend.
