Clutch...snapping?

I've put a thread up here a few months ago i think but that was just for my own curiosity after it only happened once, but now it's beginning to happen more and more.

Also it only happens to me, and i share a car with my sister and father and it hasn't happened to either of, so i'm not sure if its something i'm doing but i can't think of too many different ways of pressing in a clutch.

ANYWAY, the problem is, every now and again when i push in the clutch, it goes straight to the ground, the usual pressure of the clutch goes and it goes straight to the ground with a sort of loud 'snapping' noise and i have no use of the clutch at all until it slowly depresses back to its normal position. It only ever happens once, never more then once on a journey and ive done some long ones recently. The car is a 2004 Pug 206 taht has had all the usual electrical problems and some small jobs done with joints and stuff up front. Anyone know if this is a sign of things to come in terms of a failing clutch or just something that happens?

    Any info is much appreciated!

The sudden collapse to the floor sounds like what used to happen alot of the older fords. The problem there was a self adjuster rachet.
Ive no idea what type of setup the Peugeot has though.

Last time i got the brakes done i mentioned the clutch because i thought it was on the blink before this ever happened and he said it was a self adjusting clutch and he pointed out a cable running through the engine bay?

Does the car keep driving as if the clutch had not been pressed when this happens.

Yeah there's no difference in handling or anything but usually when it happens i take my feet off the pedal to let it slowly come back out. And i'm not sure about power because whenever im using the clutch i have my foot off the accelerator, ill have to try hit the accelerator before it comes back out next time to see if the car is still in gear or not.

Ya, thats what I meant - Is it still in gear, pulling you along when the clutch snaps to the floor?

Yeah i'm not too sure, i usually have no feet on the pedals when it happens because i take everything away to let it go back to normal and im usually focused on that. Next time it happens i'll be sure to try see if i still have power and drag this thread up again!
