    Hi!
Just about to book my first wax, want a Hollywood (gulp), what aftercare is involved, is there stuff you should apply? is it really painful or tolerable? I'm getting nervous about it now! Thanks!

Personally I don't find them painful but if you think you might, try taking two paracetamol about 20 mins before you treatment.
Don't moisturise or apply any products to the area beforehand as it will prevent the wax adhering properly and avoid applying products for at least 24 hours afterwards to give your pores time to close.
Avoid hot showers too and tight fitting clothing if possible.
Try not to touch the area immediately after waxing as the pores are open and you could cause spots or worse.
About 24 or 48 hours after the wax (you therapist will advise) you can moisturise as normal to keep the skin soft and allow new growth come up and prevent ingrown hairs.
    Hope this helps :)

+ 1 on what ThurstonWhore said, but just to add - you cannot exfoliate enough after a wax (after the 24-48 hour settling down period of course - you'll tear the skin off yourself otherwise!). Buy a good pair of exfoliating gloves (most pharmacies sell them) and use them in the shower, gently, on the area as often at you can (plus moisturise after). Really helps with preventing ingrown hairs and keeps the skin smooth.

Don't go near it at all (maybe a cool shower, but nothing more) for at least 24 hours after getting it done - the skin will be super sensitive and you don't want to cause any irritation. Aloe Vera gel is very soothing on the skin so may be worth buying some, it's cheap (around this time of the year it's usually for sale to help with sun burn!) and not harsh on the skin at all.

Your beauty therapist will probably advise you of proper aftercare but this is what I do:
    • Do not apply anything to the area beforehand (creams, gels, etc.)
    • Do not shower, wear tight clothing or exfoliate for at least 24 hours afterwards
    • apply an antiseptic cream (I love Savlon) to the area every few hours to help reduce soreness and/or redness
    Good luck!

I don't find the Hollywood painful, but my waxer said she'd never seen anyone take one as well as me the first time!

Aftercare is really easy. Redness and bumps will go down within a day. Might get a few ingrown hairs your first time.Just exfoliate everyday in the shower with shower puff, more than you are used to, but its fine!

Once you start getting a hollywood its hard to stop though!

Don't worry about the pain. Only lasts a second like. I found the hollywood the least painful wax oddly. Bit better than legs and so much better than eyebrows, which I hate!

Just to add to what everyone else said, Aloe Vera is great for helping with the pain/discomfort afterwards although they'll possibly put that one you in the salon.

Everyone's pain threshold is different, you could find it a breeze ;) just remember you are less tolerant and more sensitive when your due a period....keep that in mind when booking;)

If this is your very first time being waxed I definitly would suggest you re think starting off with a hollywood
It can be painful especially to someone who hasnt been waxed before. Why not try a standard bikini line to get a feel for it and if thats ok then either continue to the hollywood or come back a couple of weeks later to take the rest off?
