Just recently moved to River Village on the western edge of Athlone. As others have noted, wired broadband availability is pretty poor!

So my options seem to be reduced somewhat. However, if I had to choose between Digiweb Metro and WiMax, which one would you recommend? Are there any major differences?

Metro. Metro is not Midband, it is Broadband.

They are different and without getting into details, Digiweb is the FAR better choice... FAR!

I wonder is Digiweb Metro available in River Village in Athlone - it's in Monksland, which is about 6Km from the town centre?

Digiweb Metro can be equally as good as a DSL line if not better and more consistant. It uses a fiixed wireless system.

Imagine Wimax is another story tough:rolleyes: They use a terrible mobile Wimax system that can perform worse than a 3G network.

Only one way to find out and that is to give em a magical phone call to test the area, theres a list of towns on the site that are in their service or tell you what's in your area

but ring to find out for sure
