Rooted phone galaxy S2 - cant rename files

Hi I rooted my Galaxy S2 and wanted to rename the camera sound files in system/media/audio/ui and I do find the files there with root explorer but are unable to rename them - as I get an read only error. The Remount as R/W button does nothing in the /sytem folder but can be changet to Remount as R/O in any other folder except the system folder where it just switches to the 'Remount as R/W button' and cant be changed back.

Any ideas. Thanks. Fairly new to this. Not even sure if I rooted it right. Would root explorer show any of these folders if I hadn't rooted it correctly?

    Thanks

Rooting is not the same as getting write access to system. Different thing.

What you are doing is quite naughty, camera makes click noise for a reason as I'm sure you know :) Have you tried just muting the volume? That actually works on some phones.

yeah there is also loud screenshot noise and general alot of other things you can play with on a rooted phone or of course totally mess things up. Oh well I will find the answer somewhere. Phone is def. rooted as there was a guide online how to check this.

Rooting will not help you. You want write access to system partition, this is protected at a hardware level.

Oh, may only work on some phones then but not the Galaxy S2. Thanks

On some phones it is, doesn't matter. Having root does not let you write to system. Extra protection must be bypassed first.

Many Motorola devices for example have hardware protection on sys partition. This is why you can root them but not install rom.

Edit: To be more precise, sys is protected at a lower level. You can still bypass it tho, this is often known as "unlocking the bootloader".

The sound can be turned off on the Samsung Galaxy Ace through settings within the camera app. Have you tried that first? I'd be surprised if there was that much difference between the camera interfaces.
