Cables & Chargers

Guys can someone explain what the deal is with using various different cables and charges when connecting my HTC phone?

I have one charger which is a very thin usb cable. It seems to take forever to charge and also it will not work for data transfer. I'm assuming it is of lower quality and does not transmit as much power and cannot do data or something. A while back when I used my mates blackberry charger my phone charged faster than ever before. What's the deal?

Also, a plug-to-usb charger I bought cheap on ebay sometimes makes my phone go a bit bananas - just now the phone rang but when i went to puck it up the screen was black apart from the top bar.

So, if I do want to buy a few more cables and chargers etc, which ones should I look for? Are there certain wattage/voltage or certification numbers I should be looking for?

    Thanks

All micro-usb cables SHOULD be exactly the same. If you can't copy files the cable is damaged. These are generic cables and should be dirt cheap. There are no "gold plated" connectors or any ****e that will improve things.

Charging is a different story. Charging off a USB port = very little power. Charging off wall socket = loads of power. Big difference. To confuse things even more older PCs have the old USB standard which puts out less power I think.

Personally I wish HTC/Samsung/Apple would implement something like HP Palm's Touchstone inductive charging. iOS 5 seems to have cloud and WiFi syncing down to a fine art (if it works as Apple are saying it will). DoubleTwist AirTwist works well on Android and a lot of other data is kept synced with Google services. Im ready to ditch my charger come on Samsung - make it happen!
