Had to improvise some chip frying oil out of olive oil. Is there any reason why I couldn't re-use it?

Not really, have a taste of it and it should be ok considering you were only cooking chips in it. I bet the chips tasted something special

The reason usually given for not using olive oil for deep-frying is that it has a burning point lower than sunflower oil or other oils, but this is sometimes disputed.

Obviously it worked for you, so great.

You might not be able to use the same oil for deepfrying as many times.

It's not disputed, but people often get mixed up.

It's extra virgin olive oil that has a low smoke point, so unsuitable for frying.
Virgin olive oil is higher and plain olive oil is higher again
